Pep: Credit to Gunners consistency

- By John Richardson

PEP GUARDIOLA admitted his side’s 5-1 victory was anything but comfortable – and praised title rivals Arsenal for their consistency.

Guardiola said: “It looks comfortable but it was not. In the end we created more chances but in the transition we were not precise in the last pass.

“But Erling is back to business. Penalties are a guarantee but the second and fourth were unbelievable.

“They are a really, really good team but we made calls in the right moment, especially with the fourth because at 3-1 anything can happen.

“Goal difference is not possible, we cannot draw.

“The way Arsenal have been playing has been so good and consistent.

“It’s three games, hopefully we win the first and the second and arrive to the third with our destiny in our own hands.”

On Haaland’s reaction after coming off before the end, Guardiola added: “He’s a little bit frustrated, but I understand. He was frustrated with the referee. With the long balls sometimes they push him and he is pulled. Yes, it is like that.”

Wolves boss Gary O’neil said his side did not help themselves, and instead made it easy for City.

He said: “We helped them. They are obviously an incredible side and they punished us for mistakes, but some of our mistakes were terrible.

“A couple of ridiculous turnovers for the ball, like really bad that cost us and the first goal.”
