GET WISE! ... REWARD OWLS FANS
WELL done, Sheffield Wednesday.
Yes, congratulations must go to the Owls’ players who dragged themselves out of all sorts of trouble to confirm their hard-won position in the Championship last week.
Sacking Darren Moore (below) – puncturing the air of optimism that surrounded the club following an incredible play-off success 12 months ago – was on of the worst decisions of the season.
They have fought and scrapped their way clear, and a pal of mine who attended their victory over West
Brom a couple of weeks ago said the atmosphere at
Hillsborough was electric.
It was all selfgenerated, too. No pyrotechnics, rabblerousing music blasting out of the PA system, just good, old-fashioned passion pouring down from the stands.
Ten years ago, Steve Bruce said that the Owls’ fans almost earned them a place back in the Premier League when 40,000 of them descended on Wembley.
I was there that day. He was right. It’s a shame the club’s owner can’t seem to provide a base from which it can truly prosper.
But it’s his bat and ball. He foots the bills. C’est la vie. They’re not the only ones in this situation.
MANCHESTER
United are apparently listening to offers for Marcus Rashford (left).
Really? All the best with that.
He’s on £15million-ayear and has four seasons left to run. He gives the impression of playing when he feels like it. Add that to any transfer fee and you’re looking at a £100m-plus gamble.
Can’t see too many takers.
