KINNEAR HEAPS MISERY ON KEBAB
PART- TIME soccer ace Ali Kebab began packing his bags for Newcastle last week after learning the Toon’s new director of football Joe Kinnear had named him as a key player.
But the winger’s Premier League dream was quickly shattered when he discovered the blundering boss – who publicly extolled the virtues of “Kebab” – had in fact been referring to French playmaker Yohan Cabaye.
Calamitous Kinnear, 66, made the gaffe during a disastrous radio interview in which he also waxed lyrical about Hatem Ben Afri ( Arfa) and Shola Amamobi ( Ameobi).
Non- league journeyman Ali, 29, came to Britain from Azerbaijan nine years ago to run his uncle’s chain of rug shops in Lancashire, told Sunday Sport from his Blackpool home: “I’m devastated. I think Mr Kinnear is cruel to raise my hopes like this.
“My name’s quite unique in football so when I heard him say it, I fully believed he was speaking about me. I’m gutted.”
