Donner und blitzen! Hun bag Commando
AIEEE! The Hun have captured Britain’s sole surviving war comic.
Commando has been printed in the UK by Dundee firm DC Thomson since its launch in July 1961.
But fans – including British Army troops – will be shellshocked to learn that the Jerries have been printing the comic for the past month.
GGP Media are based in Possneck, Thuringia, near where forced labourers made Messerschmitt Me 262 fighter jets in an underground weapons factory in World War II.
But DC Thomson denied that the title had been lost behind enemy lines.
A spokeswoman said: “Since the start of May, Commando has been printed by St Ives Management Services at the plant of their sub- contractor, GGP Media, in Germany. The decision was made purely for commercial reasons.”
Gripping yarns about the adventures of the British Tommies facing war- crazed Germans and Japanese entranced boys growing up in the 1960s and 70s.
More than 4,600 issues of Commando have been produced and it still comes out every fortnight.
