MARC’S LAST STAND

- By BRENDAN MCLOUGHLIN

MARC ALBRIGHTON has made a last- ditch bid to save his Aston Villa career after cutting short his summer leave.

Last season was one to forget for the injury- plagued winger, 23, as he failed to figure under Paul Lambert.

A broken metatarsal meant that he was only available for three months before being KO’d again in January with a similar injury.

Albrighton ( left) is in the final year of his contract and Lambert is prepared to give him pre- season to prove himself.

But if he fails he could still be shown the door this summer, with Championship club Nottingham Forest keen.

“I just want to get fit and over the summer work hard,” said Albrighton.

“I’ve got to sort of forfeit my holidays to some extent, but that’s the sacrifices you’ve got to make if you want to make it to the top.

“I’m willing to do that to get back to what I love doing next season.

“It’s very hard to be taking a seat every Saturday afternoon instead of putting my kit on and getting dressed for a game.

“It’s so difficult, but the lads have done really well and it’s been enjoyable to watch.

“The football that we’ve played just lately has been fantastic. Hopefully we can continue that.”
