Benn blew me away!

GROVES ADMITS CHAT WITH DARK DESTROYER NIGEL LEFT HIM IN AWE

-

GEORGE GROVES was knocked out cold last week without getting hit.

The London fight ace received the shock of his life when Nigel Benn called him offering advice before Saturday’s rematch against Carl Froch.

The pep talk from “The Dark Destroyer” has boosted super- confident Groves even more ahead of his attempt to avenge November’s controversial ninth- round loss.

Groves said: “The conversation with Nigel Benn blew me away a bit.

“I haven’t spoken to him before and I had a missed call from a funny number – he lives in Australia – and a message saying, ‘ George, it’s Nigel. Call me back’.

“I was like, ‘ Okay’, and he said, ‘ Go out there and do it. He’s yours for the taking, just go out there and do your stuff ’.

Wrecking

“I got off the phone and sent my dad a text straight away. ‘ Dad, I’ve just been on the phone to Nigel Benn’.

“He gave me some really positive words and said I was going to have a really successful career.

“I won’t say what he said about Carl, he wasn’t very complimentary. Nigel expects me to win.

“Some of the guys I’ve spoken to over the years, some real stars, he’s the one I really wanted to speak to.

“It’s fantastic because I’ve only ever seen him on TV.

“I wanted to say, ‘ Mate, you sound like Nigel Benn’. He was really nice.”

A 80,000 sell- out at Wembley Stadium is expected to witness the biggest British fight since Benn (above) and Chris Eubank drew at Old Trafford back in October 1993.

Groves is still in awe of 1990s wrecking machine Benn, adding: “You could put him in a padded room and he’d smash it up. Dark Destroyer is a good way to describe him.”

Groves, 26, is looking forward to the huge showdown.

He added: “I’ve boxed at the MEN Arena and it’s felt like 80,000.

“So who knows what that will feel like on fight night?

“What I do know is that Carl is there to be beaten and he is not good enough to beat me.” LET’S GET IT ON! Froch and Groves ( right) square up before next week’s Wembley

showdown
