I DON’T HAVE TO SELL MY DANNY!

- By GRAHAM CHASE

BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche insists the Clarets can ward off interest in hot- shot Danny Ings ahead of their Premier League push.

Ings banged in 26 goals last term as Burnley pulled off a shock promotion back to the top flight.

The Clarets have a long history of being forced to sell their best players. Two summers ago Jay Rodriguez was picked up by Southampton and Charlie Austin was nabbed by QPR last year.

But Dyche is confident of keeping his side together.

He said: “I think the players are happy, I think they’ve enjoyed their season, I think they enjoy what we try to offer them on a daily basis and when they play games.

Secure

“I don’t think there’s a thirst for players to leave.

“If they do then it will be for the right reasons for the club.

“The main thing about Charlie was the board came out and made it clear that had to be done. It was just getting the right market price at that time.

“It’s different now. The finances are a whole different ball game than last season.

“The club are a lot more secure financially, so we have more power with the contracts and the players we’ve got.”

Burnley are set to seal a £ 2million deal for Stoke winger Michael Kightly as their first business of the summer.

Kightly spent last season on loan at Turf Moor and played a key role in promotion.

Dyche had a clause put in the deal to allow a permanent switch if the move went well, and Burnley are set to take it up.

They are also keen on an extension for Chris Baird, who joined the Clarets on a short- term deal in the final weeks of the campaign.

Dyche added: “We’re not in a position where we have to do anything now. We can stand a bit firmer on various different contracts and players, and equally on the ones coming in.”
