MYSTERY MONSTER EATS 9-FOOT GREAT WHITE
A FEARSOME nine- foot- long great white shark has been EATEN WHOLE by a mysterious underwater beast.
The female shark was tagged off the coast of Australia as part of a scientific program to track the species and better understand their movements.
But after four months of tracking, the device was found washed ashore on an Australian beach, 2 ½ miles from where the shark was tagged.
Data from it indicated that the great white shark – considered to be at the top of its food chain – had been SWALLOWED by an unknown predator.
Inside
According to the tracking device, the shark, nicknamed “Shark Alpha”, was swimming at a depth of 1,900ft off Australia’s continental shelf when a huge temperature change occurred.
It showed a rapid increase from 46F to 78F.
The only way that could happen is if the shark was inside another animal, scientists said.
Filmmaker Dave Riggs, who is making a documentary called Hunt for the Super Predator, said: “When I was first told about the data that came back from the tag that was on the shark, I was absolutely blown away.
“The question that not only came to my mind but everyone’s mind who was involved was ‘ what did that?’
“It was obviously eaten. But what’s going to eat a shark that big? What could kill a nine- foot great white?”
Colossal
It’s possible the wild water beast that consumed the mighty sea predator was itself a “colossal cannibal great white shark”, scientists said.
But they’re not sure – and nor are they sure why a shark consumed a fellow shark.
One theory is that the monster shark – which would have to be at least 20- ft long and weighing over three tons, may have been involved in a territorial dispute with the smaller one.
