VAN GAAL’S SET FOR A BAST BLAST
Louis wants to raid his former club
NEW Man United boss Louis van Gaal is set to raid former club Bayern Munich to make his mark at Old Trafford.
Van Gaal has given United a list of transfer targets to pursue while he is on World Cup duty with the Netherlands.
And the two at the top have both played under Van Gaal at Bayern.
Bastian Schweinsteiger is a legend in Munich and helped the club win the Bundesliga under the Dutchman.
And the German star, 29, may not fit into current manager Pep Guardiola’s long- term plans, so could be on the move this summer.
He would bring surefire class to United’s midfield, where Van Gaal is looking to strengthen.
Enjoyed
But if Schweinsteiger is deemed slightly past his peak, United have the option of going for Bayern team- mate Thomas Muller.
Muller, who plays slightly higher, is just 24 and wants to speak to the German champions about his future there, possibly opening the door for United.
Ryan Giggs has said he can’t wait to start work under Van Gaal as United’s new assistant manager.
The Old Trafford legend has hung up his boots to concentrate on his new role, after being the interim boss for four games at the end of last season.
“It was just a brilliant experience and one that I thoroughly enjoyed,” said Giggs.
“I met Louis, I liked him instantly and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
