HANDBAGS: Sir Elton John ( above) and D& G founders A GAY rights campaigner showed his support for Sir Elton John’s boycott of Dolce and Gabbana fashions by setting fire to his D&G undies.

Unfortunately, due to confusion caused by the ingestion of so- called legal highs, Sebastian Pettigrew was WEARING the tight- fitting briefs at the time. Sebastian, 49, from the hamlet of Detroit near Hogmonkton, suffered serious genital burns in his act of solidarity. Last night the graphic designer refused to come to the door of his bijoux cottage in Wiltshire. His is the latest development in a simmering spat that has caused ructions among fashionistas and homosexuals.

It began when Domenico Dolce, who with Stefano Gabbana founded the Italian fashion brand, criticised IVF, saying: “You are born and you have a father and mother. At least it should be like that. That’s why I’m not convinced by what I call chemical children, synthetic babies.”

Sir Elton, who has two children with his partner David Furnish born through IVF and surrogacy, responded furiously, writing on Sunday: “How dare you refer to my beautiful children as ‘ synthetic’.

“And shame on you for wagging your judgmental little fingers at IVF – a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfil their dream of having children.

“Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. # BoycottDolceGabbana.”

His outburst prompted a mass social media campaign, as 66,000 people joined his call to stop buying clothes from the luxury brand.

Last night a source close to Elton said: “I’m sure he would be horrified to learn of Sebastian’s injuries.”
