I’m a reffin’ IDIOT! SWARBRICK SAYS SORRY FOR LATEST RED CARD COCK-UP

-

REFEREE Neil Swarbrick was forced to make a grovelling apology yesterday, admitting he sent off the wrong player.

Gareth McAuley was the victim of mistaken identity as Manchester City got their title push back on track with a 3- 0 win over 10- man West Brom.

The game was just two minutes old when City striker Wilfried Bony was sent sprawling by Craig Dawson, who was the last defender.

But ref Swarbrick instead flashed the red card at Baggies team- mate McAuley.

City went on to dominate the game, winning with goals from Bony, Fernando and David Silva. And afterwards, Swarbrick owned up to his howler in a statement from the official referees’ organistation.

It read: “In the second minute of Manchester City v West Brom, referee Neil Swarbrick made a decision to send off Gareth McAuley for a denial of an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

“The referee has confirmed the offence was caused by a different player, which should be addressed now as a case of mistaken identity. “He has apologised for his error.”
