“I’ve no idea how the technical guys got the footage but they got crystal- clear film of all that went on. The footage was used to ‘ persuade’ people in positions of power to look kindly on British interests.

Now Valerie is writing a book about her experiences but has been warned she could face prosecution and even JAIL for speaking about her secret work.

She said: “My lawyer said there was a book called Spycatcher years ago written by a former MI5 man which led to a massive legal case. He says my case may be as big as that.

“But he also says I could be prosecuted, jailed, or even killed, like that weapons inspector before the Iraq War. The way I see it, by speaking to Sunday Sport, I’m protecting myself.

“If I were to turn up dead, it would be clear that MI5 had done me in.”

Last night a Security Service insider said that the agency was “reviewing all options” about Valerie’s case.
