He was Jimmy Nail’s STUNT COCK in the hit BBC1 drama series Spender.

John, who is now 63 and living in Gateshead, said: “It’s true. Back in the Nineties, before all this # MeToo business, every BBC show had a stunt cock on standby in case the big star turn needed to do a sex scene.

“There were no sex scenes in Spender but they still needed a stunt cock. The unions demanded it. “And I was Jimmy Nail’s stunt cock. “I was on set all the time, just in case, getting paid a small fortune and I was never used.

“I met Jimmy a couple of times but I don’t know if he knew I was his stunt cock. HIGH- RISK CASES: Nail as Spender A MAN aged 61 and a 50- year- old prostitute were arrested after he demanded a refund when told she did not do anal.

Pamela Landry brought Michael Pratt to a motel to engage in paid sex and “get some crack”.

Landry later contacted the authorities after Pratt had become irate, and began demanding his money back when she refused bumhole action.

Cops in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, arrived at the Shades Motel after receiving the call.

Pratt later confessed to keeping Landry in the motel room until she returned his money.

Landry then admitted to having already spent the cash on crack cocaine.

Upon arrest, Pratt supposedly told officers he “just wanted a good time”.

Pratt was arrested on a charge of prostitution, as was Landry, who was also nicked for possession of drug paraphernalia. MORE than three dozen kittens were swept to their deaths when a six- foot “tidal wave” of sewage engulfed a cattery in North Hunslet, Devon.

“A real gentleman, Jimmy. A proper pro.”

Spender, which starred Jimmy Nail as the title character, ran for three series between 1991 and 1993, ending with a featurelength special, broadcast on December 29, 1993.

The series, set in Newcastle upon Tyne, focuses on the life and exploits of Detective Sergeant Freddie Spender, who was often chosen for high- risk work.

Some of the storylines were seen as being quite dark – one episode featured the death of SMALL FORTUNE: John was on set all the time Spender’s wife at the hands of a ruthless gangster, another on the kidnap of one of his daughters.

But the show was notable for being actress Denise Welch’s national television debut.

And special guest stars in the series also included Amanda Redman, Rodney Bewes, and “Eddie Yates” star Geoffrey Hughes.
