France has erupted in one of her periodic fits of uproar – over KNOCKERS!
The brouhaha erupted after two gendarmes in Sainte- Marie- la- Mer, 70 miles south of Montpellier, asked three female sunbathers to put their tops on last week. Cue merry hell.
France interior minister Gerald Darmanin defended the right to sunbathe topless on beaches after social outcry over police ordering women to cover up.
And on the ground, French people are muttering darkly about “foreign influence” and “threats to our culture”.
One proud Frenchwoman has taken a stand and has vowed to go NAKED on the beach near her home in Audierne, Brittany.
Sturdy Josephine Dubois – who tips the scales at a hefty 25 stones – blasted: “These people who come here with their barbarian ways have no right to tell a free Frenchwoman she cannot bare les teats! BOF!
“If they want me to cover up, they shall have to make me cover up and then they shall feel the power of a roused French woman!
“And to push home my point, I shall not bare only my breasts but my feminine privacy too. And I have not shaved it since 2003! See how she growls. Grrr!”
Thousands of people responded to Josephine’s call to arms and she appeared on French TV on Saturday, starkers on the beach.
Monsieur Darmanin took to Twitter to condemn the officers’ actions as he wrote: “It was wrong that the women were warned about their clothing. Freedom is something precious. And it is normal that officials can admit their mistakes.”
A spokeswoman of the French gendarmerie, Maddy Scheurer, insisted: “Topless sunbathing is allowed on the beach at Sainte- Marie- laMer. It was clumsiness by two gendarmes who had the best intentions.”
