We are not THAT OCG , we’re just the OCld ute G ays band from Brighton

- By BARNEY SAMUELS

THREE elderly gay musos say they will struggle to be taken seriously, thanks to Line of Duty!

Tom Shanks, Harry Jones and Lionel Watson make up OCG, or Old Cute Gays, and are billed as a “geriatric boy band from Brighton.”

If you were watching Line of Duty very closely, you will have noticed that the baddies were referred to as OCG.

And if you could really be bothered to look that up, you would have found out that OCG stands for Organised Crime Group.

But Tom, Harry and Lionel are perfectly law- abiding men and are not involved in crime, organised or otherwise.

And they say that thanks to the BBC cop drama series, they will struggle to get bookings once lockdown rules are finally lifted on June 21.

Tom, 70, said: “We were OCG before Line of Duty even came on the telly, but thanks to that show OCG now stands for Organised Crime Group, rather than Old Cute Gays.

“We’ve been sat on our backsides for the last year, only going a few online gigs and thanks to Line of Duty we’ll struggle to get bookings now. Who wants organised criminals at their function?

“Well, I suppose people who like rap, but nobody else.”

Harry, 73, added: “Much of our work was for gay weddings and our name fitted such happy occasions well. But now OCG stands for something very different.”

Overblown

Lionel, 69, reflected that the whole Line of Duty craze was just overblown.

He said: “Yes, at times it made griping viewing but the plot has been full of holes throughout. Look at the end of season two, which was only resolved by the unbelievable idea that DI Lindsay Denton somehow realised her car had been fitted with a tracker, managed to locate it under her vehicle in the pitch dark and managed to place it on the underside of the car transporting protected witness Tommy Hunter as it burned at upwards of 900C.

“Without that outlandish plot device, the whole series could not hang together.

“So the wheels were coming off Line of Duty before the dud ending for season six.

“I preferred Softly, Softly. Frank Windsor was a great actor and, of course, the show was a springboard for Gavin Campbell, later of That’s Life fame.”
