WHAT DO YOU think?

THIS WEEK: THE CHURCH & ITS LINKS WITH SLAVERY

- Barry Simpson, Leicester Jason Catchpole, Swansea

WHEN I awake, gently, at first light, my first thought before preparing my green tea and kimchi croissant is to weep for the souls of those abused, wrought, and wronged by my slavery boss ancestors.

Not that I’m aware that I actually have any, but it’s best to be prepared in these circumstances as a cis “woman” with hideous white skin and a propensity for watching Love Island on catch- up.

I weep. I yoga. I am. And then I weep again. Yes?

HERE’S an idea: Let’s just completely cancel history, shall we?!

We can pretend the Nazis were never murderous, Jew- hating c** ts. Forget that ISIS throw gay people off towers. And forget that some religious leaders did some rum things.

Seriously, who are these dickheads?

BLESSED be the white- robed peace warriors who are finally holding this foul country to account.

It’s not just statues to people who historically gave thousands of people decent jobs and enabled them to have well- rewarded family lives. We need to burn down trees, too.

Did you know Brexit voters used to hang people from trees with cheap plastic bags? I bet you didn’t. And that’s the MSM for you. Never telling the truth.

Alex Winsome, Bristol

I RECKON there are more important things that churches need to worry about, other than statues that may or not relate to some kind of slavery past.

Priests fingering young boys might be a good place to start, say. Perhaps a little more urgent than a sculpture carved in 1802 by persons unknown about something we all clearly understand better today.

WHAT exactly are we meant to be knocking down here? Statues? Westminster Abbey? St Paul’s Cathedral?

I mean, yes, they’re a bit draughty and dull, but they earn cabbies a lot of money taking tourists on a very obscure and expensive route to them.

Are they going to ban the Queen next, too? Probably.

REMEMBER, when you are dead, you do not know you are dead. It is only painful for others. The same applies when you are stupid. – Ricky Gervais
