IT’S KEIR SHAWARMA

Face of embattled leader found in kebab

- By SIMON KING

AFTER losing the formerly safe seat of Hartlepool, eight councils and 327 councillors in this month’s elections, Labour boss Keir Starmer needs some cheering up.

And fast food worker Ali Khan reckons he has just the thing, after finding the face of the embattled politician in a SHAWARMA KEBAB!

Ali, senior assistant at Very Good Clean Food in Manchester, reckons the mystical appearance of Sir Keir’s face could herald a change in fortunes for the former top prosecutor.

He told Sunday Sport: “Labour has done shit, innit. But when I saw that shawarma, I reckoned it was a sign that things can only get better and that, yeh?”

Ali sent a photo of the kebab to Sir Keir’s office and hopes the 58- year- old will pay a vist to his takeaway establishment, which boasts a food hygiene rating of 2.

He explained: “We put photos of all the famous people who have visited behind the counter. We had that bloke who used to play Brian Tilsley in Corrie in here once, but he was just asking for directions, and that bloke off Brookside came in twice.

“Sir Keir would join them on the wall, too.”

Ali said that he put the kebab in the cellar for safekeeping but unfortunately the rats have since eaten it.

Shawarma is a Levantine Arab dish consisting of meat cut into thin slices, stacked in a cone- like shape, and roasted on a slowly- turning vertical rotisserie or spit. Originally made with lamb, mutton and chicken, today’s shawarma may also be made from turkey, beef or veal.

Spotlight

Sir Keir found his leadership under the spotlight following the disastrous set of results for the Labour Party in the local and mayoral elections.

And last week former leader of the Scottish Tories,

Ruth Davidson, advised Starmer to go find some “personality somewhere.”
