Boat people risk lives fleeing back to France

HUNDREDS of illegal immigrants who risked their lives crossing the English Channel in boats are making a return journey because things have got so bad here.

And shockingly some of them are so desperate to get out of Britain they are trying to SWIM to France.

Tens of thousands of people have illegally come to the UK to claim refugee status from the shores of France.

They pay Albanian crime gangs thousands to make the journey. But following Kwasi Kwarteng’s mini budget, which tanked the economy, they are now going the other way.

And asked why they claim the increased cost of living, fuel costs and general misery here is too much.

Mohammad Al Wahri, 34, fled to Britain from his homeland in Kurdish Iraq.

He reckons his life is under threat there because he is Christian and managed to flee the country.

And Britain was always where he wanted to be. But now he has changed his mind and had to be rescued while swimming a mile out at sea on the way to France.

Expensive

He said: “I thought the UK was a land of paradise.

“It is the home of freedom and democracy and free speech.

“But when I got here I found that it was a bit shit. Everything is so expensive and the public transport is a joke.

“The political system seems almost as bad as in my home country. At least I didn’t face persecution for my religion which is good but after the mini budget it was just too much.

“So I decided to swim back to France. Apart from the fact that it is full of French people it is quite nice there.

“I know they are having their own problems but at least they aren’t trying to actively make things worse.”
