Horror after bumming session in storage unit
A JURY has recommended a 22- year- old man who murdered and chopped up a fast food seller after a bumming session in a storage unit should spend the rest of his life in prison.
Jurors had earlier found Mathew J. Cramer II, 22, guilty of murder, abuse of a corpse and resisting law enforcement in the slaying of Shane Van Nguyen, 55, on April 23, 2021.
Cramer admitted to killing Nguyen after he’d had enough of Nguyen’s sexual advances.
The defence claimed Cramer was living in a storage unit.
Robert Scremin, Carmer’s attorney, told the court in Fort Wayne, Indiana, that said Nguyen saw Cramer walking along a street, drove him to the storage unit and the two had bum sex.
His defence said he acted in a panic and was the victim of a sexual predator. It was not murder, said Scremin.
But prosecutors Tom Chaille and Tesa Helge said Cramer was well aware of what he was doing and was guilty of murder.
After 55- year- old Nguyen was reported missing, his remains were found in his van.
Investigators said Cramer slammed Nguyen’s head to the ground, killing him.
Hacksaw
They say Cramer and an accomplice, 21- year- old Jacob Carreon- Hamilton, dismembered Nguyen’s body.
Cramer hacked at Nguyen with a machete and that it took 43 blows to sever his head from his body. Other body parts were then removed with a hacksaw and the bits bundled up in a tarpaulin. The
whole process was caught on the storage unit’s CCTV and the court was played the grisly footage. Two of the victim’s relatives left sobbing.
In the footage, Cramer is seen hacking at the victim’s body.
Then Cramer shoved it out of the way with his foot.
“There’s no justification,” Helge said. “He’s responsible for what he did.” Helge argued that Cramer graduated from high school and was “capable of making his own choices,” even saying he was the “mastermind” of the crime.
