GIRL KILLED HER FELLA WITH A HAMMER
…then chopped him to bits
A WOMAN bludgeoned her boyfriend to death with a SLEDGEHAMMER after he was cruel to her cat, a court heard.
After killing Sidney Josephe Mantee, 28- year- old Paris Jayanne Laroche then chopped him to bits and kept the remains in the fridge, disposing of them over a period of time around Nanaimo, a city near Vancouver in Canada.
Laroche has pleaded not guilty to first degree murder and indignity to human remains over 32- year- old Mr Mantee’s gruesome death in March 2020.
Laroche admitted to undercover police officers and several witnesses to striking Mr Mantee in the back of the head multiple times with a sledgehammer at the apartment they shared during an early morning ambush.
Evidence provided in court stated Laroche slit his throat, cut his body into small pieces, stored body parts in her fridge, then spread the remains over the course of several months.
At issue is whether Laroche’s actions were deemed to be reasonable in light of the evidence presented throughout the trial of physical abuse by Mr Mantee towards her and her pet cat.
The trial resumed last week at British Columbia Supreme Court in Vancouver after the judge- alone proceedings had been adjourned for two months.
Laroche has not yet testified at the trial.
The court heard that seeing Mr Mantee abusing one of her cats shortly before his death was “the last straw”.
Laroche was charged in March 2022, about 11 months after the trial heard she had confessed to a close friend.
She told undercover cops she hit Mr Mantee with the sledgehammer as he slept face- down on a mattress in the living room.
Laroche directed police to body parts of Mr Mantee that she had scattered throughout Nanaimo.
The trial continues.
