BARRY DEMANDS ANTI-MISSILE SHIELD…FOR BIDDULPH!

- SUNDAY SPORT EXCLUSIVE By SIMON DEAN simon@ sundaysport. co. uk

WHEN Barry Wallace watched Israel’s space age defence systems make a mockery of Iran’s missile attack last weekend, he cheered for the plucky Jewish state.

But then he had a horrifying thought…

If the crazed mullahs of Iran decided to launch a similar attack on his home town of Biddulph in Staffs, the place would be utterly defenceless.

Semi- retired gas fitter Barry, 58, explained: “The marvel that is Israel’s Iron Dome anti- missile defence system can’t be overstated.

“But Biddulph has no such protection. None. And if the mullahs decided to attack,

Biddulph would be reduced to a smouldering ruin.”

Barry got onto the council and explained his concerns.

He said: “I suggested that maybe the Biddulph Iron Dome could also cover Leek and Congleton, so we could share the costs, but the woman at the town hall spoke to me like I was some sort of idiot.

“She asked me if I was phoning about my council tax bill and I explained all over again that Biddulph was vulnerable to attack from Iran.

“It just takes their supreme leader Ali Khamenei to wake up in a bad mood and – Bam! – Biddulph is history.

“She said I’d clearly been drinking and put the phone down on me. It seems that nobody is taking the threat to Biddulph seriously.”

Realistic

Last night a source at Biddulph Town Council said: “Thanks to cuts in the grant from central government, projects like an Iron Dome for Biddulph are just not realistic.

“We could ask Congleton, I suppose, but they’re in Cheshire East, and they are even more financially f** ked than we are.”
