Sentenced to death by ‘ rocking chair’

Sunday Sport - - NEWS -

THE Yank state of Kentucky hopes to “restore confidence in the death penalty” with a new execution device nicknamed the “electric rocking chair”.

Kentucky “retired” the electric chair in 1998 and now uses lethal injection – the preferred method in most US states.

But with a shortage of the drugs used in the lethal injection cocktail and controversy over whether the injection is constitutional, Kentucky is revisiting the chair – nicknamed ‘ Old Sparky’.

Designers have come up with a replacement for the old- fashioned woodandleather- straps chair which is described as “stylish and ergonomic”.

A source at the Kentucky Department of Corrections said: “This chair is as comfortable as my old grandpappy’s rocking chair.”
