youths from nearby towns.

The girls celebrated the 6- 0 drubbing by posing for a victory snap after they had showered – and posted the image on the uni message board.

But senior dons at the respected centre of learning failed to see the funny side.

And after being summoned to see the Vice Principal, the group were suspended from lectures and seminars until the end of term.

Fellow students voted on Friday to “down books” in support of what has become known as the Titty Five.

Drama student Connie Phelps, 20, said: “It’s awful to be suspended and having this on our records but the support from the rest of the student body has been ace.”

Last night a spokesman for the university, which can’t be named for legal reasons, defended the suspension.

He said: “The suspension was not for the picture, per se. It was the caption ‘ Ha! We thrashed the local pikeys and halfwits’ which constituted the offence.

“Behaviour such as this jeopardises our outreach work in the community.”
