Durham hindered by Glamorgan, and rain

crease, before the latter needlessly skied one to Rushworth at mid-on off James Weighell’s bowling and the hosts were back to struggling at 92-4.

New batsman David Lloyd could have gone third ball, but a simple chance went begging for Ryan Pringle at slip.

Having restricted Glamorgan to 112-4 at tea, Durham picked up their fifth wicket 10 balls into the final session, as Lloyd was removed by Collingwood at slip off Coughlin for 16.

Donald reached his half-century off 74 balls before a one-handed midwicket catch by Keaton Jennings off James Weighell brought an end to a 42-run partnership as Glamorgan reached 167-6.

Andrew Salter joined Chris Cooke at the crease and an unbeaten partnership of 58 saw Glamorgan through to the close of play after the latter had reached his half-century off 83 balls, having hit eight fours along the way.

Rushworth said: “It’s been hard but in fairness when we got back on, conditions were in our favour. It just didn’t go as well as we’d planned.

“It’s nice to come off the field with six wickets but the plan was to stop the run rate, which didn’t go to plan.

“We had a plan of trying to keep it tight but a bit of luck went their way and a few bad balls went against us.

“We’ve just got to come back and try and do the right things and hopefully pick up a few quick wickets.

“It’s frustrating when things like [dropped catches] go against you, and all of a sudden they hit a few bad balls and we’ve gone for 35 in three overs.

“It is disappointing but we’ll come back tomorrow and hopefully switch on from the start.

“It did feel a bit like [a T20 game] with every second ball flying to the boundary for a bit. It does feel like hard work but I think we’ll be happy after that day.

“They look an attacking kind of lineup and we’ve got to stop the boundaries and that will bring wickets.

“It’s a shame we didn’t get a full day in because of the conditions but hopefully we get a full day in tomorrow and get these four wickets.”
