Livingston end Berwick run
LIVINGSTON BERWICK 21 19
AFTER a run of four straight wins, Berwick went down to a narrow two-point defeat when they travelled to take on Livingston in East League 1.
After a tense start, Berwick opened the scoring when Aidan Rosie set up Gareth Hill for a try, which was converted by Jack Webster.
But the home side hit back with a converted try of their own which levelled the scores up at 7-7.
However, almost immedi- ately, Berwick went on the attack again, and Rosie went over after good work by Hill and Duncan Hardie – Webster missed the extras but Berwick were 7-12 to the good.
In a see-saw first half, back came Livingston and a converted try, edging them 14-12 in front – the score at half-time.
In the second half, Webster missed an early penalty attempt, and this was to prove costly as Livi went over for a third try, which was converted, and they stretched their lead to 21-12.
Berwick were struggling to get out of their own half, but a breakaway from Hardie saw Hill feed Jamie Pick and he touched down for the visitors’ third try of the afternoon, Webster’s conversion making it 21-19.
Berwick then finished the match strongly, but were unable to find another score for a victory. They were awarded a late penalty, but Pick’s attempt was wide of the uprights and defeat means. The Blacks remain in fourth place in the table, 15 points behind leaders Hawick Harlequins.
