Pressure on for League Two teams

-

LUTON and Notts County remain locked together at the top of League Two after a 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road. The two teams went into the match level on 41 points and ended it one better off, with Johnny Mullins opening the scoring in the 26th minute and Shola Ameobi levelling in the 61st.

Accrington stay third, despite their match against Swindon falling foul of the wintry weather, because Exeter suffered a 3-1 defeat against Colchester. The hosts were three up in half an hour through Troy Archibald-Henville’s own goal and Sammie Szmodics’ brace. Jayden Stockley pulled one back in the second half. There was a huge match at the bottom of the table between Chesterfield and Barnet and birthday boy Robbie Weir scored the winner for the Spireites deep into injury time.

John Akinde had given Barnet the lead in the 11th minute but Charlie Clough’s own goal looked like it would earn Barnet a point.

Weir’s late strike lifted Chesterfield out of the relegation zone, with Forest Green dropping into the bottom two. Mitch Rose scored the winner for Grimsby in their 1-0 victory over 10-man Rovers, who had Jack Fitzwater sent off in the first half. Strugglers Port Vale and Morecambe both claimed valuable 2-0 victories. Two goals from Cristian Montano either side of half-time saw Vale beat Cambridge, while Vadaine Oliver and Callum Lang were the goalscorers for Morecambe against Coventry.

There were six goals in less than half an hour as Newport and Carlisle drew 3-3.

Fifth-placed Wycombe ended their three-match losing run away from home but could only draw 0-0 with Stevenage, while Lincoln climbed to sixth with a 2-0 victory at Yeovil.

Mansfield dropped out of the top seven after losing 2-0 to Crawley, while Jamie Grimes scored the only goal in Cheltenham’s 1-0 victory over Crewe.
