- BY PAUL ARMSTRONG

AS the colder temperatures close in, North East coarse anglers can look forward to very good sport over the winter.

Some of our waters are fishing that well, many anglers expect the action to continue over the winter months.

The Derwent Reservoir is producing excellent nets of roach to both the float and feeder.

Expectations are high a good turn-out of anglers for the Derwent Championship on November 18 will produce some bumper weights.

Whittle Dene’s waters are also showing excellent form.

Feeder and slider are working well here with plenty of doublefigure nets being recorded.

Big Waters AC have finalised the dates and venues for their Winter League.

These are Whittledene Match Lake on December 2 and 16, Bowes Lake at the Angel on December 30, Forest Lane on January 13 and 27, the Angel on February 3 and Whittledene on March 3 and 10.

The Forest Lane Sunday Opens start on November 4. Meet at Oaklands Lake for a 9am draw.

November 4 also sees the last big match of the year on the River Tyne.

Tickets for this ever-popular event should be in tackle shops now.

BWAC’s latest senior league match took place on the Northern at Whittledene as low water levels and slippery banks on the match lake necessitated a switch for safety reasons.

Paul O’Donnell took the win with 6lb 6ozs ahead of John Parkinson with 5lb 5ozs and Barry Evans with 4lb 4oz.

BWAC’s rearranged match at. Over Dinsdale will take place on November 11. Meet at Croft WMC at 8am.
