West’s Pure delight as Robins’ wings clipped

West Auckland go on the attack during their Ebac Northern League victory over hosts North Shields TWO goals from West Auckland Town striker Amar Purewal were the difference between the two sides as his side saw off North Shields in a tight, nervy affair.

The visitors made a lively start and came close to opening the scoring when Alex Francis flicked a header just past the far post after rising to meet a cross from former Robins favourite Denver Morris.

Francis was at it again on four minutes as he curled a shot narrowly wide from the edge of the area.

The momentum built up by West was ended when defender Danny Parker received lengthy treatment after an innocuous clash with Adam Forster.

The powerful centre-back was stretchere­d off and replaced by Jamie Cobain.

There was little coming from the Robins but Sean McRoberts did have a sight of goal on the quarter-hour mark when he fired over the crossbar from 16 yards.

Gary Day was the next to try his luck from the edge of the area but the former Blyth AFC striker could only send it wide of Shane Bland’s farpost.

There were several calls from players on both sides for their teammates to relax when in possession, but those requests went unheard as the play turned sloppy.

Passes went astray and the end result was that both sets of players never really threatened to opening the scoring as the half-time whistle approached.
