Stainsby lifts top prize in Tyne contest

THE last big match of the year on the River Tyne last Sunday, the Steve Roberts Memorial, was a resounding success with some catches showing exactly what the river is capable of for us coarse anglers.

Teesside’s Paul Stainsby took the honours with a fine 44lb 11oz net from the south bank near Corbridge. Ian Kirton followed with 36lb 8oz and Steve Lackenby completed the top three with 32lb 10oz. Ian Kirton also took the King of the Tyne trophy after a great effort in the rivers matches.

An amazing £808 was raised for the Stroke Association through match ticket sales, sponsorship and a superb raffle on the day.

The second round of the Eden Grange Winter League saw a good turnout and good weights. Dylan Blyth led the way with 80lb 9oz, ahead of Calum Parker with 78lb 4oz and Bill Richards with 69lb 5oz.

Some good nets are coming from Hebron Lakes near Morpeth where the dam wall in particular is producing some nice mixed bags. Hebron has also reduced the price of its day ticket for the winter to £5.

The consistent John Dryden took the win at the Angel of the North’s Lookout Lake last weekend with a creditable 149lb 5oz, ahead of Ethan Bradley with 77lb 13oz and 68lb 2oz.

Hartlepool & District have announced that the date of their annual general meeting will be on the 27th of this month at the Ward Jackson Cricket Club starting at 19.00 hrs. This same club have a match on Tilery today, meet at 0900.
