Morien goes on four-goal Killing spree
A FOUR-GOAL salvo from Malcolm Morien, which took his league tally to 30 for the campaign, saw Killingworth comfortably dismiss hosts Percy Main Amateurs 4-0 yesterday afternoon.
Victory for Killingworth saw them move second in the table on goal difference from Newcastle Blue Star.
The Main also missed a penalty and dropped a place after Alnwick Town moved up to sixth with a last-gasp win at home to Shankhouse.
Only one goal was netted in the first, Jonathon Colley with the opener for Alnwick and he doubled the lead early in the second half. A quick-fire brace from Kevin Carr levelled the score, his second coming from the rebound of a missed penalty.
Jonathyn Quin restored Alnwick’s advantage just after the hour but the Hoose levelled again with three minutes remaining, Christopher Marshall with the goal.
However, Ross Muers netted in stoppage time with the last kick to snatch all three points.
The other Premier Division match saw Gateshead Rutherford enjoy a comfortable home win over Seaton Delaval as Dan Fullen netted twice in a 5-0 win. Dan Irvine opened the scoring on his debut for the hosts, while Nikki Langston and Stephen Hall also registered.
The rest of the Premier Division sides were on cup duty with Newcastle University winning the big clash in the Northumberland Benevolent Bowl, beating Newcastle Blue Star away 3-1.
The Students were leading by two at the break, Conrad Zyko and Olly Walden the scorers; Iury De Moraes pulled one back midway through the second half but University’s progression was sealed in the closing stages through Lefteris Alambritis.
Chris Zolden netted twice as Whitley Bay A came from behind to win 3-2 at FC United of Newcastle, Sven Hart also scoring. Replies came from Anthony Brown and Jordan Stevens and there was a tasty nine-goal affair at Newcastle Chemfica where they edged New Fordley 5-4, five goals coming in the first half, with three converted penalties.
Jordan Watson netted three times for the visitors, twice from the spot and Lee Richardson got the other but they found themselves undone by a Steve McLaughlin brace, one a penalty, and goals from Chris Homans, Fergus Lynch and Garrick Murphy.
The remaining first round tie saw a solitary effort six minutes from time by Jonny Edwards give Wallington the win away at 10-man Ponteland.
