Seasiders off to a flyer, but Dean has helping hand

-

MARSKE United eased into the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy with an impressive home win against Tamworth.

The Seasiders took just 22 seconds to open the scoring as winger Curtis Round produced a sublime chip to send the ball sailing over visitors keeper Jas Singh and into the net.

Only an offside flag ended Jamie Owens’ celebrations as he looked to have given Carl Jarrett’s side a two-goal lead on 12 minutes.

There was a slight let-off for the hosts just after that chance as Chris Lait found debutant striker Gregg Smith, but the former Stamford and Boston United man could only prod wide of Rob Dean’s goal.

The Marske number one was at the heart of the action to preserve his side’s lead at half-time as he kept out a point-blank header from Jordan Gough on 35 minutes.

But Dean saved his best effort until three minutes before half-time as he dived full-length to palm a Lait penalty away from goal.

The duo resumed their battle after half-time, but again it was the Marske number one that came out on top with an instinctive save with his feet.

Chances came and went for the visitors with Smith, Lait and Gough all bringing saves out of Dean.

And those saves were rewarded as James Fairley marked his return to Marske in typical fashion.

The well-travelled winger rejoined the Seasiders from Hebburn Town this week and he reintroduced himself to the Marske faithful by rounding off some fine work from Curtis Round.

That sealed a notable scalp for Carl Jarrett’s men as they saw off a side that plied their trade in last season’s National League North. Tomorrow’s draw awaits, as Marske’s historic FA Trophy run continues.
