Taking stock in readiness for next year

AS the winter approaches, a few of our clubs are looking to the future by enhancing their existing fish stocks with new blood.

Wansbeck and Cramlington set the ball rolling, with some excellent carp going into the QE Reservoir.

Twenty carp between 9-15lb will certainly improve sport on that water.

Ryton & District AC members will also be looking forward to fishing their Tilcon Pond after the introduction of nigh on 900 F1 carp.

The planned stocking of £3,000 of skimmer bream into the Whittledene Reservoirs has been delayed.

Northumbria Water discovered that, after health-testing samples of the fish they intended to stock, the fish were found to be 13 to 15 years old and obviously stunted.

They are now actively seeking to source this stock from elsewhere for introduction in the New Year.

Despite a freezing start, last Sunday’s Open on Eden Grange produced the goods.

Tony Dowson led the way with 76lb 11ozs, followed by Dylan Blyth in second who came away with a haul of 41lb 9oz, and Ian Shuttleworth with 39lb 8oz.

Ounces separated the top three in Sunday’s open on Lookout lake at the Angel.

Ethan Bradley snatched the win with 50lb 5oz, two ounces ahead of Martin Craig with 5lb 3oz, John Nelson took third with 49lb 4oz. A very close match indeed.

Ryton & Disrict Angling Club will hold their Annual General Meeting tomorrow at the Ryton Rugby Club from 8pm.
