COARSE ANGLING

Junior girls take the top match spots

- BY PAUL ARMSTRONG

THE wet weather gear has been in good use this last week as the consistent rain has blessed our area!

However, this has not dampened the ambitions of our determined coarse fishers who have continued to make the most of the excellent sport now available in our area.

The incessant rain did not deter the local juniors who turned up to contest the Tyne Anglers Alliance Trophy on Bowes Lake at the Angel last Sunday, and it was good to see the ladies leading the way, and Big Waters AC junior taking the top places. Mischa Whiting led the way with a winning net of 39lb 1oz taken on the pole. Lexi Freeman used pellet waggler to good effect to take second with 33lb 10oz and Ben Hunter switched between waggler and bomb to take third place with 32lb 5ozs. Well done to all who took part, we undoubtedly have some very skilled young anglers in our area!

The first of the BWAC Winter Series went ahead at Whittledene last Sunday, and with the match lake closed the Northern was the chosen venue.

John Mitchell took the honours with 7lb 4ozs, ahead of Andy Bell with 5lb 9oz and Nige Collis with 4lb 14ozs. Incidentally, I’ve noticed that the water levels in the match lake have vastly improved, and I expect this water to be fishing again soon!

Sunderland FAC fished their fifth Winter Series at Stonebridge, where Keith Garret led the way with 15lb 10ozs, followed by Adam Garret with 7lb 14oz and Roger Turner with 3lb. The final match of the series takes place today at Carrs Silverfish Lake

Leazes Park AA will hold their Annual General Meeting in the clubhouse this Tuesday at 19.00 hrs. All members are invited to attend.
