Round double, but only point

-

CARLTON TOWN 2 MARSKE UNITED 2

MARSKE United led twice away from home with a Curtis Round brace, but Carlton Town responded to ensure the points were shared, writes STUART DICK.

With the home side sitting in the bottom four and Marske looking to sneak into the top six, it was all to play for. But the first half was quiet, both sides with decent spells of pressure but neither making it count in the final third.

The weather took a turn for the worst in the second half, but that seemed to open the game up.

Round finally struck first on the hour mark to put Marske ahead, a low, driven shot somehow sneaking under goalkeeper Jack Steggles.

Carlton fought back though, Aaron Opoku equalising in the 64th minute to bring the sides level.

Round got his brace 10 minutes before full-time, battling past defenders to head the ball past Steggles and put Marske ahead.

But Carlton applied the pressure and managed to strike again in the 88th minute via Dylan Otshudy.

Goalkeeper Robert Dean came off his line to punch clear a loose ball but missed, leaving Ostudy an open net to easily slot the ball in to.

Despite taking a point each, Marske still remain three points outside the top six of the Evo-stik East Division. Carlton stay sat in 17th, three points off the bottom.

MARSKE: Dean, Martin, Rowbotham, Liddle, May, Wheatley (c), Fairley, Gott, Round, Owens, O’sullivan. NOT USED: Waters, Plant, Owen, Butterworth, Brockbank
