Fifth home loss for the Quakers

-

DARLINGTON NUNEATON BORO 1 2

DARLINGTON lost at home to bottom club Nuneaton, a fifth home defeat in the league this season, writes RAY SIMPSON.

Quakers produced some good football and several chances, but were beaten by sloppy defending.

They were on top for most of the first half. Stephen Thompson had a low shot blocked by Nuneaton’s Cameron Belford on six minutes, and promising new signing Williams Kokolo had a low shot pushed away.

Thompson opened up the Nuneaton defence for Luke Trotman to have a close-range effort blocked, and then the Darlington skipper hit the bar with a chip.

Nuneaton came more into the game, and Darlington keeper Jonny Maddison just grabbed the ball on the line after Adam Mcgurk nearly forced in a Ryan Edmunds cross.

The visitors took the lead just on half-time, when a cross came over from the left to the far post, which Edmunds controlled and blasted in.

Quakers got back into the game on the hour; Nicholson picked the ball up 30 yards out, ran forward, and struck a low left-shot home.

They then looked for the winner, but it was Nuneaton who broke through again on 70 minutes, Dior Angus firing past Maddison.

Thompson had two penalty appeals turned down then Belford’s excellent save denied Kokolo. DARLINGTON: Maddison, Trotman, O’hanlon, Wheatley, Jonny Burn, Galbraith, Kokolo, Elliott, Saunders, Nicholson, Thompson. NOT USED: Glover, Aaron Burn, Lingthep, Lycett, Morrison
