Star can still shine this season

-

EX-SEAHAM Red Star coach Jon Mcdonald has backed the club to improve their form over the festive period, writes MARK CARRUTHERS.

The Ferguson Motor Repairs Stadium club are sat second from bottom in the Northern League Division One table after losing their last four fixtures.

Mcdonald spent just over a month working alongside Red Star manager Mark Collingwood before leaving to join Morpeth Town in November.

The ex-north Shields and Blyth AFC boss is still in contact with several of his former players and he believes they will see an upturn in form over the coming weeks.

He said “I have spoken to a few of the lads at Seaham and they have felt that they were unlucky against Dunston last weekend. By all accounts they deserved to get something from the game, because they created a lot of chances without taking them.

“When you are down there, your luck goes against you.

“They have a good squad of players down there and I think the priority is just to stop shipping goals. That’s the key thing.

“But in terms of attacking players, they have managed to get Bobby Taylor signed from North Shields and they have the likes of Michael Chilton and Dan Wilson, who will get goals.

“They just need to get the defensive shape right and I think they will be OK this season.”

Red Star face a home double header over Christmas as Whitley Bay visit the Ferguson Motor Repairs Stadium next Saturday and Hebburn Town make the same journey on Friday, December 28.
