‘COULD DO BETTER’ IS HIS VERDICT ON MRS MAY

BLIND schoolboy Jack Thompson has written to Santa to put the world to rights. He has told St Nick that he has laid down a few rules setting out what will be a priority on his agenda when he is Prime Minister. The caring 10-year-old says there aren’t many presents he wants this year, but would like to see a difference in making other people’s lives better. And as he sets his target to raise £30,000 for charity, he reckons he’s more than qualified to voice his views. Jack, of Wardley, Gateshead, said: “I think the Prime Minster at the moment isn’t the best one, I think she could do better. “I wrote to Santa giving him my laws because I think I would do a better job as Prime Minister than her. “Santa is magic so I thought by writing to him, he might be able to help me become Prime Minister when I grow up.” Jack was just four months old when he was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour on his optic nerve, which has left him registered blind. He’s now on his seventh round of chemotherapy. The Sunday Sun has followed the St Augustine’s Primary School pupil’s fundraising story about how he has been raising cash for the past three years by holding cake stalls, tombolas and raffles in aid of charities CLIC Sargent and Heel & Toe. And he was determined to get to his fund-raising goal by the time his birthday arrived on June 27 this year. Jack decided to forfeit his private birthday bash and hold a fun day in its place to raise thousands of pounds to get towards his cash goal. He held his event at the Leam Methodist Church in Gateshead and around 200 people attended. The amount made on the day brought his total up to a massive £24,200.

But since then he’s been out and about collecting and now aims to raise £30,000.

Jack spends most of his days with nana Elaine Mckay when his parents, Jeff and Diane, are at work. And it’s his nana who takes him on his adventures.

Elaine, 61, of Washington, said: “Jack wrote his letter in Braille and I translated it. He plays the game of ‘when I’m Prime Minister’ and tells me what his new laws would be. It was from this he decided to write his letter to Santa to put a few things straight. He has a heart of gold and the world would improve with Jack in charge.”
