Dull draw keeps Marske in touch

-

MARSKE United remain just three points outside of the Evostik NPL East play-off places after their goalless draw at AFC Mansfield.

The game was a low-key affair with neither side really creating enough chances to deserve a win.

Marske could have taken the lead on 11 minutes when Glen Butterworth raced into the area but could only slide a shot wide of the far-post.

Joe Iaciofano and Ollie Fearon went close in quick succession for the hosts but the game was unsurprisingly goalless after a drab first-half. AFC MANSFIELD MARSKE UTD 0 0

The Seasiders improved immeasurably after the interval and James Fairley forced Mansfield keeper Jason White into the action on 55 minutes.

Liam O’sullivan was next to be frustrated by the keeper when his low drive was blocked by the legs of the number one.

The introduction of Brad Plant livened up proceedings and he almost put Marske in front within 60 seconds of his arrival when he deflected a shot goalwards, only to see the ball land into White’s arms.

Craig Gott could have claimed the points in the last minute as his charging run into the area was followed by a weak shot that was easily saved by White.

That ensured that the deadlock remained unbroken and the spoils were shared in a game that won’t live long in the memory.
