Seasiders hang on for win
CALLUM Patton continued his impressive form as his first-half goal gave Whitby Town all three points against Gainsborough Trinity.
Although the Seasiders were grateful for an outstanding save from keeper Adam Mchugh that confirmed that first home win since October.
Chris Hardy’s side almost went in front on 11 minutes when Greg Rutherford saw his shot cleared off the line by Trinity defender Joe Maguire, brother of England defender Harry.
With just a minute to go until WHITBY TOWN GAINSBOROUGH TR 1 0
half-time, Patton crashed home an indirect free-kick after Trinity keeper Jon Stewart had handled a backpass.
The visitors improved after the break and would have restored parity, had it not been for a remarkable stop from Mchugh. The former Blyth Spartans keeper somehow kept out an effort from Trinity striker Ross Hannah with a super reflex save.
The visitors piled forward looking for an equaliser, but some brave defending from Whitby duo Toby Lees and Kieran Weledji saw them deny substitute Jonny Margetts in the closing-stages and ensured that their side claimed a valuable win.
