Deficienci­es up front are striking

BORO’S plans to revamp their attack in January raise question marks over the future of the team’s current forwards. Jordan Hugill has worked his socks off since coming into the team but has still not made the hoped-for impact. Hugill arrived on Teesside injured and, once he finally regained full fitness again, looked to be the answer to Boro’s problems.

He scored twice in a home win against Wigan and again in the ensuing win at Brentford.

However, even since linking up in a two-pronged attack with Britt Assombalon­ga, Hugill has struggled to stay on top of his game.

The Teessider will quite rightly point to the fact the service to the front men recently has been dismal, and at times diabolical.

However, Tony Pulis desperatel­y needs to find some answers up front and now the fans are looking to see who comes in during the January transfer window.

Pulis has done the right thing in pairing Hugill and Assombalon­ga together lately, especially as Assombalon­ga looks a little lost up front if he is not playing off a second striker. Pulis is said to be interested in Crystal Palace’s former Sunderland striker Connor Whickham (left) who is still working his way back following a major knee injury.
