Castle offers something for the whole family to enjoy

FROM TEAS TO TROPHIES

-

AN ACTION-PACKED time is promised as Raby Castle opens for February halfterm for the first time with family fun and trails, with a Mother’s Day treat and the Cricket World Cup Trophy Tour also still to come.

To mark the occasion of its first February opening, Raby Castle, in Teasdale, has teamed up with Bright Woods Forest School CIC to bring an exciting collection of family activities that will teach children of all ages about birds.

There will be bird box building sessions in the Coach Yard, a free ‘Who Am I?’ spring trail in the park and free bird colouring sheets in the Stables Cafe.

The shop will have bird picture and activity books, handcrafted wooden bird calling whistles, build your own bird feeder and a chance to create your own insect house tins.

March will see the return of Raby’s popular midweek Behind the Scenes castle tours, with the castle reopening fully to the public at weekends.

A new Afternoon Tour and Tea in the Castle package has been launched for Mothering Sunday, with the gardens open for all of these events.

Saturday, April 6, sees the Cricket World Cup Trophy Tour stop at Raby Castle. Brought to you in conjunction with Durham County Cricket Club, this event will include a fun-filled day for all the family with a commemorative cricket match on Raby Castle’s own pitch, children’s ‘Come and Try’ activities and of course a variety of food and drink.

The Children’s Tours of the Castle will be returning for the school holidays in April, while Bright Woods will have a ‘Whose Baby Am I’ trail and will also be helping you create Easter-themed miniature growing gardens.

For those of you looking for something more challenging, the castle will be welcoming the Young Farmers Horse Ride back to Raby at the end of April and Teesdale Athletics Club Races in May.

Or for something totally different, Raby will be celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Orchid Show on the first May Bank Holiday weekend.

More information about all of these events and details of how to book tickets can be found at www.rabycastle.com/ Events.
