BERWICK Rugby Club 1st XV lifted the Border Shield by beating Hawick Harlequins in the final at Hawick.

An early converted try saw Hawick take a 7-0 lead, but Berwick hit back and levelled with a score from Ryan Wilson and a conversion from Andrew Skeen. Skeen then kicked a penalty and added a try, which he converted himself, as the Blacks moved 7-17 in front. Hawick then had a player sin-binned before Tom Jackson went over, converted by Skeen to give them a 7-22 lead.

Jack Dalrymple added a fourth try for Berwick early in the second half, but Hawick scored a try, converted, which brought them back to 14-27.

Dalrymple added his second try of the afternoon, converted by Skeen and Berwick found themselves 14-34 in front. Gareth Hill was then sin-binned for Berwick and Hawick kept the game alive with a try, converted for 21-34. Another try tightened it up at 26-34, but Berwick were able to see the game out to the final whistle, securing their first silverware of the year.
