Blue Star go in pursuit of University

NEWCASTLE Blue Star closed the gap on the Premier Division leaders Newcastle University to six points yesterday with a 3-0 win at Alnwick Town.

Goals from Phil Grant, Richard Coulson and Mitchell Ramsay wrapped up the points.

Newcastle University reached the final of the Benevolent Bowl with a 3-2 win over hosts Whitley Bay A.

Wallington moved level with Killingwor­th in third place as they won 4-2 at Gateshead Reserves. Thomas Truscott, Jake Walton, Justin Millican and Michael Angus all notched for Wallington.

Killingwor­th reached the final of the Challenge Cup with a Malcolm Morien solo effort early on against New Fordley.

First Division leaders Blyth Town ran riot against Longbenton as David Brown and Paul Dunn both scored hat-tricks in a 13-0 win. Adam Johnson and Connor Andrews chipped in with braces.

A second-half double from Michael Laws sealed a 4-0 win for Cullercoat­s at Red Row and Andrew Mclennan scored twice as Bedlington won by the same at Felling Magpies.

Blyth beat Coundon 5-0 while Ellington won 5-2 against Spittal Rovers.
