Patience pays off for the Moors

-

THEY had to be patient, but Spennymoor Town further enhanced their National League North playoff hopes with a win at struggling Nuneaton Town.

The Moors were heavy favourites going into a game against a side that have won just three league games so far this season.

Jason Ainsley’s side looked in a confident mood, although they took until the midway point of the first half to create their first real opportunity. It fell to new signing Liam Agnew, as the midfielder collected a pass from Mark Anderson, but his powerful shot was blocked by Miles Addison.

The hosts had offered little in NUNEATON BOROUGH SPENNYMOOR TOWN 0 2

the opening half-hour but only an impressive save from Matt Gould kept the game goalless the halfhour.

Ryan Edmunds went close just before half-time when he curled a shot narrowly wide of Gould’s farpost and that miss meant that the deadlock remained in place at the interval.

Just as they had in the first half, the Moors dominated the early stages of the second as Glen Taylor and Andrew Johnson both went close.

An opening goal arrived on 77 minutes as Taylor found a way past veteran keeper Cameron Belford.

The game was settled with five minutes to go as Mark Anderson was first to a loose ball after a challenge on Taylor and swept the ball past Belford from just inside the area.

It hard been a hard-earned win for the Moors, but one that will only enhance their belief that they can secure promotion into nonleague’s top flight.
