Man arrested after shop raid
A MAN has been arrested after raiders made off with up to £300 from a shop in Middlesbrough.
Two men walked into Lifestyle Express in Grove Hill at around 7.00 on Friday evening – one was armed.
Locals in the area suggested a gun had been pointed at a worker, although police say this is not the case and no-one was hurt.
A force spokeswoman said: “The two suspects entered the Lifestyle Express Store shortly before 7.00.
“One of the men was reportedly carrying a small firearm, which was not pointed at anyone inside the store.
“Fortunately, no-one was injured during the incident.
“The men made off with between £200 and £300 cash.”
Police remained at the scene yesterday morning.
One worker from the nearby Palladium Fish and Chips said: “I was stood at work and our delivery driver came in and said: ‘I am sure someone just passed me with a gun [wearing a] balaclava’, then about five minutes later this is what happened. in
“Our boss came and emptied our till after that. I have lived here all my life, I am 63 and it is getting worse.”
The man arrested on suspicion of robbery remains in police custody.
