A PERVERT who posed as a doctor twice fell over as he tried to run away from paedophile hunters who snared him trying to meet a child for sex.

David Wilkinson claimed he was a GP and even sent a picture of himself wearing an NHS identity card around his neck during explicit internet conversations he thought were with a 13-year-old girl over ‘Teen Chat.’

But he had been duped by Dark Justice, who were waiting for him when he turned up hoping to meet the youngster.

Realising he had fallen into a trap, Wilkinson, 40, who worked for the health service but was not a doctor, made a run for it. He was filmed falling over twice as he tried to make his escape along a road and then through a field before he became breathless and gave up.

During the chats, which moved from the teen website to vast numbers of private text messages, Wilkinson said he “liked young girls”, sent pictures of his penis and suggested they could have oral sex.

Prosecutor Alec Burns told Newcastle Crown Court: “He told her a number of things, including that he had done this sort of thing a couple of times before with girls her age, that he liked girls that age and at one stage pretended to be a doctor and sent a photograph of him with an NHS identity around his neck.

“He wasn’t a doctor but did work for the health service.”

The court heard Wilkinson arranged to meet the schoolgirl on a Saturday night in April 2017, but Mr Burns added: “When he went to meet this person he was, of course, confronted by Dark Justice.

“He ran away and tried to escape but was caught.”

The court heard Wilkinson’s internet search history, which was checked by the police, included terms such as “free teen sex”.

Wilkinson, of Wingrove Road, Fenham, Newcastle, admitted attempting to meet a child after grooming.

Recorder Sophie Drake sentenced him to 16 months behind bars with sex offender registration and a sexual harm prevention order for a decade.

The judge told him: “In order to gain her trust, you told her you were a GP and you showed her identity to that effect.

“Of course, that was a lie, you are not a GP but you wanted her to believe that.

“You engaged in this behaviour thinking she was a 13-year-old girl. She, in fact, wasn’t.

“But, thinking she was a 13-yearold girl, and having engaged in sexual content with her, you arranged to meet her.”

The judge added: “Your internet history clearly shows you have a sexual interest in children. The content of the messages you sent clearly shows you have a sexual interest in children but you deny that.”

Richard Bloomfield, mitigating, said Wilkinson has a good work ethic and has never been in trouble before.

Mr Bloomfield added: “He has been in employment, that employment will go, without a shadow of doubt he will lose his job.

“The knock-on effect is he will lose his accommodation.

“So, as well as his good name, he has lost his job, his home, and will be held out to considerable public ridicule for what he has done.”
