WEST AUCKLAND 0 CHERTSEY TOWN 2
West failed to deal with a long ball into their area, leaving Michael Peacock to pounce and seize possession sixteen yards from goal.
He battled his way through two weak challenges before rolling the ball to Quincey Rowe, who sliced the ball beyond Bland and inside his near post from around 10 yards.
The visitors should have all but secured their place in the last four of the competition eight minutes before half-time.
Jake Baxter crashed a volley goalwards and brought an instinctive stop out of West keeper Bland.
The loose ball rolled back towards an off-balance Baxter but he could only roll the ball against the far post with the goal at his mercy. West finally got the ball down in the last five minutes of the half and looked dangerous for the first time in the game.
However, they were unable to create any real opportunities and left themselves with a mountain to climb in the second-half.
West were out early for the restart and looked more alert as they tried to find a way back into the game.
The hosts were dominating possession but without finding their way through a resolute and disciplined Curfews defence.
The introduction of Adam Burnicle added a spark and he had their first real chance 20 minutes into the second-half.
A long ball into the area was flicked on by Purewal and the loose ball found its way to the former Shildon striker.
He took a touch before forcing visitors’ goalkeeper Nick Jupp into a simple save at his near post.
Time wore on, chances were at a premium.
Purewal flicked a header beyond the far post on 82 minutes after a vicious inswinging corner from substitute Mackenzie Heaney.
There were desperate shouts, three of them in total.
One looked credible but referee Peter Gibbons was unmoved when Steven Smaith seemed to be pulled back by Lewis Jackson.
West committed more and more penalty players into their attack and left themselves open to a killer goal as time slipped away from them.
It should have arrived in the last minute of the game as Lubo Guentchev was given the freedom of the West half.
He raced through on goal but his timid shot was easily claimed at the second attempt from Bland.
Four minutes of stoppage-time came and went and with it went West’s chances of reaching Wembley for a third time.
