Peek inside speak-easy bar Blind Pig

-

A NEW 1920s speak-easy themed bar has opened in a coastal village.

The Blind Pig is based inside a converted church, the Land of Green Ginger, which already has a range of shops, on Front Street in Tynemouth.

The business has been launched by husband and wife team Stephen and Victoria Bones, who also run the Pie & Bottle Shop in North Shields.

The bar gets its name from the phrase ‘blindpig’, which was often used inthe1920s prohibition era to describe a hidden bar. The venue’s drinks menu will incorporate O’donnell Moonshine Cocktails alongside a selection from local breweries including Mordue, Firebrick, Allendale, Anarchy, Flash House and Black Storm.

Drinkers will also get to sup on more traditional Guinness and Birra Moretti, as well as wine and soft drinks.

The bar’s grand opening will take place at 6pm on Saturday, with music from Jason Isaacs.

Mr Bones said: “We are already running a business in North Shields but this is the first time we have done a stand-alone pub. It’s a new challenge for us. We live in North Shields and come to Tynemouth all the time. And we love it the feel of the place is great.

“We felt this was a good place to open our new business. There is already Alfie & Fin’s Gin Bar here and we are offering something different for customers to try.”
