Douglas fires in three for University

NEWCASTLE University maintained their 11-point lead at the top with a 5-1 win at bottom side FC United of Newcastle. Keith Douglas rifled in a hat-trick.

Killingwor­th stay second on goal difference after winning 4-1 at New Fordley. Dan Stevenson bagged a brace.

Blue Star romped to a seven-goal dismantlin­g of hosts Whitley Bay A on Friday, Richard grabbing a hat-trick.

There were draws at North Shields Athletic and Seaton Delaval as both came from behind to earn a point against Percy Main and Wallington respective­ly; Antony Ridley and Paul Collinson opened for the Main at Shields, who fired back through Jonathon Coulthard and Phil Watson while a Kyle Reardon brace had Wallington two up at Delaval, who earned a point via Usman Ugidan and Stephen Lucas.

Joe Turnbull scored twice as Gateshead Rutherford defeated visitors Shankhouse 3-2, as did Jack Warriner for Gateshead Reserves in their 3-2 win at Newcastle Chemfica.

Ponteland left it late to defeat visitors Alnwick 2-0, Mason Stevenson opening the scoring. Louis Calvert stepped up in stoppage time to seal the points from the spot.

First Division leaders Blyth Town reached the final of the Northumber­land Minor Cup with a 5-1 home win over New York. They’ll play Cullercoat­s after they came from behind to win 3-1 against Haltwhistl­e Jubilee.

In the league, the top-four clash saw Bedlington beat Blyth Spartans Reserves 3-2, all five goals arriving in the first half.

Braces from Sean Best and Craig Rook helped Winlaton to a 5-1 win at bottom club Newcastle East End. Hebburn U23s won 3-0 at home to Wallsend Boys Club. Seaton Burn won 1-0 at Gosforth Bohemians and Felling Magpies against Prudhoe Youth Club finished goalless.

The see-saw battle for the Second Division title continued as Rothbury, with three games in hand, returned to the top on goal difference after they won 4-2 at Jesmond. Whitley Sporting Club fell to a 2-1 reverse at Stobswood.

Willington Quay Siants edged a five-goal thriller at Wideopen and Blyth FC came from behind to win 6-2 at Spittal.

Liam Mckee hit a four-goal salvo as Cramlingto­n Town won 5-2 against visiting Ellington, Condon won 1-0 at Burradon and Seaton Sluice beat Gateshead Redheugh 4-2.
