Second brace for Fewster

-

BAMBER BRIDGE 1 WHITBY 3 BRADLEY Fewster continued his impressive start to his Whitby Town career by making it four goals in just two games in their 3-1 win at Bamber Bridge.

But manager Chris Hardy’s side had to do things the hard way as they fell behind to Alistair Waddecar’s strike for the hosts on five minutes.

Regan Linney should have doubled Bamber Bridge’s lead on 15 minutes as he narrowly missed out on getting on the end of an excellent cross from the right.

But instead forward Fewster got the visitors back on level terms six minutes before half time.

The former Blyth Spartans man got on the end of a cross from Dale Hopson and fired past Brig goalkeeper Russell Saunders.

That handed Whitby the initiative, but the visitors had to wait until 76 minutes to go in front for the first time in the game.

It was Adam Gell that got the goal which ultimately proved to be the winner as his powerful volley beat a crowded area and nestled inside the far post.

And the three points were secured seven minutes from time when Fewster doubled his tally for the day – and made it two braces in as many games – with a neat finish from the edge of the area.

The result means Whitby have leapfrogged Matlock Town in the table and are now up to 11th.
